What we do and how we can help you
If you’re looking for work, or about to start a new job or training course, you will be thinking about how to get there. What options are there? How much will it cost? Nottingham Gets 2 Work aims to make it all as easy as possible.
You just need to be aged 16-29 and live within Nottingham City.
We can help you with things like...
Personal travel coaching
When you get in touch with us we'll sit down with you and give you some free personal travel coaching.
That means we'll discuss where you live, where you are looking for work and how you travel at the moment. We'll work out where you could easily travel to and answer any questions you have about local transport. According to your circumstances, we might be able to offer you reduced or free travel tickets and other support such as help with cycling.
We can issue free and reduced travel passes in some circumstances to help you get into employment.
This could be if you have an interview or training course that’s too far to walk to. If you’re starting a new job, it can take a while for your first pay cheque to come through. To help you make it to payday, we may be able to help out with your travel costs too.
We can issue passes that cover the Nottingham City area (Kangaroo cards and pre-loaded Robin Hood Cards) and bus passes to go as far as Derby, Mansfield and Chesterfield.
We can kit you out with a free reconditioned bicycle to help you to travel to a new workplace, course or placement.
We'll ensure it's the right sort of bike for you and it's fully adjusted to suit your size. It comes complete with accessories such as cycle map, helmet, lights, high-quality bike lock.

Don't be puzzled by your bike - It's easy when you know how! You can be your own bike mechanic when you've been on one of our free courses. Figuring out how you're going to get to a new job or training course can be stressful, especially if you're not used to travelling a long way or using different forms of public transport.
Don't worry - we can fix you up with a journey buddy to take the trip with you to help you build your confidence! First of all we sit down with you and look at different ways to travel by foot, bike or public transport across the city and plan out a route to get where you need to go. Then our travel buddy goes on the journey with you.
If you're not fully confident on the roads, we can arrange for you to take part in cycle skills training classes. Our training is run according to the National Training Standards and is provided at Beginner, Intermediate and Confident levels.
Fully accredited and insured cycle instructors provide the cycle training sessions. They’ll help you every step of the way, whether you're a complete beginner or if you'd just like to brush up on your skills. Everyone learns to cycle at different rates so we pace and plan instruction sessions to need.
Our beginner course includes things like:
- Staying upright without wobbling
- Getting on and off
